Many women are anxious about going into labor. How will you know when it’s time? Will it hurt? How long after your water breaks should you be at the hospital? Whether it’s your first pregnancy or third, you never know exactly what to expect. Here are some important questions to ask your doctor before you go into labor.
- How will I know when my water breaks?
- How many people can be in the delivery room with me? Who can they be?
- Can family, friends or the adoptive family film or photograph the delivery?
- How long will I be in labor?
- What happens during a "typical" birth?
- What is a C-Section and when would that be performed?
- What are my pain control options?
- How long will I need to stay in the hospital?
- How long does the baby need to stay in the hospital after delivery?
- What if my baby is born early or there is an emergency?
No question is too big or too small when it comes to pregnancy. Make sure you feel comfortable with your delivery plan and the information your doctor has given you. Every delivery room has different rules. If it helps you to feel more comfortable, ask the doctor or nurse if your family or the adoptive parents can be with you for the birth.
