What are Adoption Profiles?
Adoption profiles are a compilation of photos, information, and a birthmother letter created by the adoptive family. Every adoption profile will include information about the family’s home, lifestyle, extended family, interests and occupation. Adoption profiles also contain a photo gallery to give birthmothers an authentic look into the adoptive parents’ lives. Every AdoptList family has an online adoption profile. How can adoption profiles help me choose an adoptive family?
Some birthparents have an idea of what type of family they are looking for. Others don’t know it until they see it. Adoption profiles are full of important information about adoptive families. From basic info like location, occupation and education to more detailed information like family traditions, how the couple met and why they’re considering adoption, adoption profiles are a fantastic introduction between a birthmother and adoptive parents.
What should I look for in Adoption Profiles?
An adoption profile is likely to be the first impression you will have of an adoptive family. What to look for in adoption profiles depends on what you are looking for in an adoptive family. Many birthmothers find that pictures are extremely important when searching adoption profiles. (For example, a birthmother may gravitate towards a family with pictures of dogs because she, too, grew up with dogs.) Think about your personal interests and what type of life you’d like for your child, and match that vision to adoption profiles. Remember - things are not always perfect. While you may not find an adoptive family that is 100% perfect, you might come close.
What do I do when I find an Adoption Profile I like?
First of all, congratulations! Finding an adoption profile that speaks to your hopes and dreams for your child is a huge hurdle. Now it is time to schedule a meeting with the adoptive family. First, contact your adoption coordinator at AdoptList. Let them know which adoptive profile you are interested in. They will initiate contact with the adoptive family by setting up a phone call or in-person meeting. This does not mean you are committed to this particular family. You can change your mind or dismiss a situation at any time.
