Getting to the hospital during labor is stressful enough. If you're placing your baby for adoption, you will have other preparations to think about as well. Be prepared and pack your hospital bag a month or two before your due date. That way you won't be scrambling to find what you need when your water breaks!

Photo ID & Insurance Card

You should never leave the house without a driver's license or photo ID. Since you're headed to the hospital, your insurance card is a no-brainer.

Bathrobe, nightgown, slippers and socks

Hospitals provide gowns and socks for you to use during labor and afterward, but some women prefer to wear their own. Choose a loose, comfortable robe that you don't mind getting dirty.

Your own pillow

Having something comforting such as your own pillow or blanket will help you feel more at home.

Music, magazines and books

Music or reading material will be helpful entertainment for both you and visitors.

Lip Balm

Hospitals can get very dry!

Toiletries

Don't forget these! Bring deodorant, toothpaste/toothbrush and a comb or hairbrush. Bring a scrunchie or hair clip to hold your hair back during delivery.

Cellphone & Charger

You might need to make some phone calls or send some texts while you're in the hospital. Don't forget your phone charger! You might be in the hospital longer than expected. Having your phone is a great way to take photos or videos of your birthing experience, too!

iPad/Laptop/Tablet

You never know how long you will be in labor. Download/buy some movies, TV shows or games. You will be thankful for the entertainment - trust us!

Singles

You, the birthfather or your family might get hungry or thirsty. Bring a couple dollars to use at the vending machines.

Snacks

Waiting at the hospital makes people hungry. Pack some small snacks like chips, crackers or granola bars to keep hunger at bay.

Flip Flops

According to experienced mothers, flip flops are nice to have around. Slip them on for trips to the shower, bathroom or if you just feel like taking a walk.

Multiple Outfits

Depending on how long you're at the hospital, you might want a few comfy outfits to change into. Bring things that are loose fitting like sweatpants, pajama bottoms and hooded sweatshirts. Make sure to pack a “going home” outfit for when you leave the hospital. This should be loose and comfortable. Believe it or not, you will still look about 5-6 months pregnant!
