Dear Birthmom
Dear Birthmom
ear Expectant Mother,
We wish we could address you by name because you and your baby are so very special and wonderfully made. We've been praying and waiting for you and your baby for years. The fact that you are so selflessly and generously thinking of letting us raise your little one is something to be admired. The sacrifice you are making is the hardest thing we could ask of anyone. We want you to know we will do everything in our power, with our village surrounding us, to raise your child with the very best life we possibly can. When they take their first step, lose a tooth, learn to ride a bike, have a first heartbreak, or fall down, we will try our hardest to honor the beautiful gift you’ve given us.
"Surreal" is the best word to describe how we feel officially being on this adoption journey, along with the thought that you’re taking the time to get to know a little about us. In learning that it’s unadvisable for Emily to have children biologically, we can’t emphasize how much the word “gift” is not taken lightly. You would truly be providing us the ability to grow our family with a child, and that’s something immeasurable on any scale.
Thank you for thinking of us,
Spencer and Emily

Our Story
We met 15 years ago in college, and Emily jokes she didn’t even like Spencer at first! We started as classmates and coworkers, became friends, and a surprise Halloween kiss from Spencer in 2008 sealed the deal. Ohio has been home since 2013, where Spencer's been able to grow his career in life insurance underwriting, allowing Emily to transition from a corporate career to bartending a couple days a week, which gives us flexibility and time together. Traveling, hiking, cooking, going to festivals or concerts, gardening, and spending time with our friends and family are what we love doing together. Providing meals and a comfortable place for all is our love language! Individually, Spencer enjoys disc golf, camping, and trying new smoker recipes with our good friend and neighbor. On her own, Emily's more likely found around the house, windows open and sun streaming in, giving creativity for new crafts, painting, projects, or baking.
Our Extended Family
Close knit, growing, and full of love are the best ways to describe our families. In fact, seeing Spencer's personality come alive when interacting with his Hispanic side is how Emily knew she had found the one! We're thankful for families that form who we are and continue to be examples in character, life, and marriage.
Both our parents are still married, and Spencer has two brothers while Emily has three. With all siblings married, we have a total of 13 nieces and nephews. Our extended family is full of too many aunts and uncles to count, let alone all the cousins and second cousins who remain close. Holidays are important, but Christmas is our favorite with our extreme decorating! Every year we go home for a couple of weeks to soak up traditions and make new memories with family.
With family afar geographically, we're thankful for a large family of friends for support in Ohio who are anticipating the titles of Aunt and Uncle. We host a Thursday night family dinner with up to 12 people between spouses and kids! These are the moments we live for, and it feels unreal that we are dreaming of our own little one to create these special times with.

Our Home
We grew up in rural Wisconsin and Illinois. After college, Emily's former work brought us to a city in Ohio, where we established roots and bought our first home in 2021 with our cat, Nala ("Kitty"). Locally, we enjoy a variety of restaurants, concerts, festivals, and annual events. A zoo, a conservatory, multiple interactive museums, games, metro parks, and walkable downtown areas are great for dates or visits with family and friends. As an added bonus, we moved in right next door to our close friend and his family. With the house becoming a home, we can envision our own child living this beautiful life with us. The best compliment we can get from friends’ kids is a babysitting request or asking their parents if they “have” to go home!
Our Journey to Adoption
Emily was adopted into a loving home. In fact, her dad was also adopted with his sister as babies, and her eldest brother and his wife completed their family of six when they adopted their youngest daughter from Guatemala. We have gotten to see firsthand how beautifully formed a family can become through adoption. After experiencing the great love and completion of family adoption has brought to us already, we know God has been preparing our hearts all these years to bring us to this moment. When we learned we were unable to have children biologically, we immediately knew what we were meant to do, as perfectly placed in our hearts: adopt.
