Our Story
When we met in 2010, our lives changed in ways we would have never imagined. We hit it off right away. We shared the same sense of humor, similar values, and a lot of the same interests. We met at a nonprofit we still both work for and are proud to say we work toward the same goals and have for over 13 years. Dana loves to try new things and go on fun adventures and pushes Jill’s comfort levels with new experiences. Jill is the planner. She takes the time to investigate all possible outcomes with each decision made. This mix of our personalities has benefited us in many ways and makes our lives very enjoyable and rewarding. We also have a two-and-a-half-year-old son who is learning new things daily. We are loving every minute of him keeping us on our toes.
Our Extended Family
Both of us come from a smaller family with one sibling, and we’re both the oldest. While we came from small families, we have extended family with many close cousins and a niece and nephew. Jill’s parents live about an hour away, so we are able to visit easily. Dana’s dads live in California, so this makes for a fun and affordable family vacation destination. They also have a condo close to our house that they spend the summers at so we get as much time as we can with them.
Last December Dana’s mother passed away, and this was a difficult time for our family. Every year in October, both of our families and friends that are like family make it a priority to meet for the local annual Down Syndrome Walk. This is something we all really enjoy and look forward to.

Our Home
We live in a small community 30 minutes outside of a metropolitan area with our son, Reid, and two dogs, Woodford and Hazel. We’ve been lucky to have lived here since 2016 as this was our dream location. We live two miles from a beautiful state park that has one of the largest lakes in Wisconsin and offers miles of hiking trails as well as camping. Our subdivision consists of newer homes with young families. We love being surrounded by families that are close to the same stage of life as we are. Our backyard is our oasis, the dogs and Reid love to explore, and we enjoy our garden that we work hard to perfect each year.
Our Journey to Adoption
The path that led us to adoption was one of introspection, compassion, and a desire to make a positive difference in a child's life. It started with us being foster parents in 2014 with the realization that family goes beyond blood and that love knows no bounds. During the time we cared for four children and helped three families, we realized we longed for a family that would be with us forever. We were so surprised and extremely grateful to have been able to adopt our son in 2020 through foster care. When we look at our future, we would love to be able to grow our family one more time and to have children who share a sibling bond.
