Dear Birthmom
Dear Birthmom
Thank you for taking the time to look at our profile. We know that reading letters like this may be overwhelming during a time filled with many emotions and difficult decisions. While we cannot fully understand everything you are experiencing, we want you to know how deeply we respect the strength and love it takes to consider a path like adoption for your baby.
Amanda has dreamed of adopting since she was a little girl. We have always believed that families can be formed in many ways, and that love is what truly makes a home. As adults, beginning the adoption process has been both exciting and overwhelming at times, but the hope of welcoming a child into our lives has guided us through each step. Writing this letter feels a little strange, because it is hard to capture in words how much gratitude and respect we feel for you and the decision you are facing.
Over the years we have worked hard, and had a bit of luck, to build a life that feels steady and secure. Our greatest hope is to share that life with a child. We look forward to a home filled with encouragement, curiosity, laughter, and unconditional love as we help a child grow into who they are meant to be.
Thank you again for considering us as you think about your baby’s future. We are truly grateful that you would take the time to learn about us.

Our Story
Music reaches people in a place beyond words. Our story together began with music and the Bronco Marching Band at Western Michigan University. We convinced Amanda’s siblings to join us as a rock band at our wedding, and our first dance was to her siblings performing our song. We continued to perform music after college and we currently perform with a few local bands from classical music to a traditional German band (including lederhosen and dirndl!). Last summer we were fortunate enough to perform as ambassadors with the Blue Lake Adult International Band in Europe. Music has taken us so many places and introduced us to countless amazing souls in this world. We cannot wait to share these special connections with your child.
Our Extended Family
We have taken great care in surrounding ourselves with people we can rely on. We know it takes a village to raise a child and it’s important that all voices be heard. Our closest family is Joshua’s brother Jeremy, his wife Amanda, and their two children Tyler and Lilly. We adore them and take them with us on as many adventures as possible, including road trips to the ocean, baseball games, swimming, and camping.
Amanda’s parents are nearby, and are very involved grandparents. Joshua’s parents are “full timers” traveling the country in an RV with their oversized dog named Cowboy. They winter down south and can be a driveway away at a moment's notice. They love to spoil their grandkids (including the fur babies)! Amanda’s siblings are spread around the country but still make a point to get the whole family together. Last year, we hosted both family Christmas’ at our home and were overwhelmed with love and joy between family, little cousins, and fur babies! Favorite family traditions include camping trips, cookouts, and making traditional foods like pierogi and horseradish.

Our Home
We live in a small country neighborhood about twenty minutes from…well, everything! Our two-acre property is tucked into the back of the neighborhood and borders a nature preserve. We love the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees while also having the safety of a neighborhood. Our pets appreciate the free entertainment in the woods and are sure to announce the arrival of every squirrel! We have three dogs and three cats and can’t quite remember what a quiet house is like.
The school choice program allows us to pick the best schools in the area for your child. We have a large open home with five bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a music room, and two large living spaces to hang out in. This comes in handy when we host family events and holidays. We may go just a little over the top with our decorating!

Our Journey to Adoption
“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” Neale Donald Walsch
One of the most important parts of our lives is our adventures in travel. We seek out the unknown, whether that lies in the next town or across an ocean. Whether hiking, photographing nature, or enjoying local cuisines we are always on the lookout for the next adventure. What makes people, people? Human beings are amazing, every idea and every culture worth exploring. We will never know what it’s like to live life in someone else’s shoes, but we will do our best to listen. We aim to challenge and educate ourselves in our travels, and broaden our perspectives of the world.
