Dear Birthmom

We’ve written this letter to you a million times in our head, yet we still don’t have the words to express how eternally grateful we are to be a prospective family for your child. Your strength, courage, and abundant love for your child are apparent in your consideration of adoption. Please know we’re here and committed to working alongside you and supporting you the best way we know how, if you choose us.

If blessed with the honor of being chosen, your child will be raised in a loving, happy, and nurturing home. We promise to love unconditionally, support her or him always, and provide a great education and many life experiences along the way. We will be the cheerleaders during accomplishments and will listen and comfort when disappointments arise. We’re excited for our future child to have an older sister, a playmate, and a best friend for life. She asks every day for a baby to love and to live with us forever.

Trusting in us to adopt your child would be the most wonderful and amazing gift. We look forward to meeting and learning more about you. We pray that coming together with kindness, compassion, and communication, you will always be part of our family.

With gratitude and love,
Bradford, Jodi & Maeve

Our Story

When they say opposites attract, that’s our story. Bradford was raised in the mountain/lakes region of Maine wearing L.L Bean boots. Jodi was a city girl, accomplishing her career goals in NYC before retiring her heels and returning to her roots in Maine. Both of us were skeptical when we joined an online dating app, but we’re very thankful we did. Two years from our first date, we were married and Jodi was pregnant. Although opposite in ways, when it comes to marriage and family, we have the same morals, values, and life goals. Bradford is a senior recruiter for a national automobile association, and Jodi is a director for an event company and works from home. We have a young daughter who’s a love and keeps us on our toes. Family time is very important to us, and we’ve accomplished a great work–life balance.

 Our Extended Family

We spend birthdays and holidays with our families. Bradford is the youngest of four children, and Jodi has a sister and two step-sisters. Our daughter Maeve is very lucky; she has fourteen cousins. We’re fortunate to have loving families, and tears of joy were shed on both sides when we told them we were adopting.

Bradford’s family camps at a lake. We hike and swim during the day, and nights include family BBQs, campfires, and occasionally a competitive game. Thanksgiving is one of our favorite traditions, with lots of food and two turkeys (one being deep fried/burnt by the men). After dinner we do a Secret Santa draw and begin plotting for the funniest, cleverest Christmas gifts.

Summer weekends with Jodi’s family are spent at the beach or boating to local islands and inlets. Many days end with a lobster dinner. Our favorite Christmas tradition is searching for the perfect tree then going to town to shop, followed by dinner and the tree lighting. We do have non-holiday traditions. Sunday dinners were a must when Jodi’s mom was alive, and we still do when possible. We pay tribute to her mom every year with the grandkids releasing balloons to Nanny in heaven.

 Our Home

Upon entering our home, you’ll most likely be greeted by a Disney princess and our dog, Bo. We live in a coastal town in Maine and recently moved to a four-bedroom home in hopes of growing our family. We have a playroom full of toys and a large backyard perfect for adventures. Our yard is surrounded by a wildlife refuge with trails through the woods that lead to the ocean. We love living in a tight-knit community and running into family and friends when we’re out. The town has a great school system, parks, and recreational programs, from “mommy and me” groups to a children’s library, music and art classes, and youth sports—all activities we can’t wait to share with your little one.

 Our Journey to Adoption

Adoption was a frequent discussion early on in our relationship. Seven years ago, Bradford met his biological daughter for the first time. Through conversations, love, and their infectious silliness, a very special bond was born. She stood by our side as a bridesmaid when we got married and excitedly took on the role of big sister. Their relationship and interactions with one another is very sweet. We did IVF and experienced multiple losses trying to have children. With heartache came healing when we talked about adoption. Our relationship with Bradford’s daughter and her adoptive parents has taught us so much about family. We’ve seen first-hand how adoption works through love and kindness. It gives us hope as we begin our adoption journey.
