Dear Birthmom

First off, we want to recognize what you are going through as a woman and as an expectant mother. This is not an easy process for you. We both grew up with and have continued our adult lives surrounded by powerful, strong, intelligent, and caring women—and you are no exception.

Although we cannot say we fully understand what you are going through, as an Ob/Gyn, Calen has helped many women through difficult situations and has a unique appreciation and respect for women going through this journey. As coparents to a ten-year-old, we understand the challenges of raising children and what it means to provide a loving and supportive home.

Finally, thank you. Thank you for getting this far in our profile and for seeing something in us that is worthy of providing a loving home for a baby. We promise parenting is something we do not take lightly nor without recognition of your sacrifice. We promise to provide the utmost care, attention, and stability from our home and family. We promise they will not have a better, sweeter, and more encouraging big sister than June. And above all, we promise to love them the best way we know how and to provide them with an environment at home where they can thrive in the truest form of themselves. Thank you for considering us.

Our Story

It all started with a swipe on a dating app! We met for our first date in 2019. We fell in love quickly, but as the cliche goes, it felt right. From the very beginning, we bonded over our love for spending time with friends and family, the outdoors, dogs, hiking, good food, and, most of all, adventure. This made the process fairly simple when we were met with a major decision within our first seven months of dating. Calen, a physician in the Air Force, was notified that he would be moving from Texas to Alaska for work. Lukas made the decision to join Calen! We have been on the adventure of life together ever since and were married in 2021. Our adventures are accompanied by love, support, and togetherness from June (Calen’s daughter from his first marriage), Barry and Maggie (our two dogs), and family and friends.

 Our Extended Family

We both grew up in small Texas towns where being close to your family was ingrained in everyday life. Both of our parents hold family values high on their priority list. Lukas has one older brother and carries forward family values of kindness, reliability, and love through quality time. Calen has two older brothers and carries forward family values of hard work, caregiving, and love through acts of service.

We both were raised knowing grandparents, great-aunts and great-uncles, aunts and uncles, and cousins on both sides of our families. In addition to our immediate family, Calen and Lukas also have five nephews and two nieces. The older we have both become, the more we realize how unique the love we have with our families is. We are able to spend days on end with our parents and not feel the stress that others might feel.

We love spending time with our families and always make the most of it when we are together. We love being active in our parents, siblings, and nieces/nephews lives. Family get-togethers and hangouts have become the new normal now that we all live closer to one another.

 Our Home

Being a military family (living in Alaska, DC, and now back in Texas) has trained our household to embrace adventure and to treat “home” as a feeling, not a location. We have always agreed our home should be somewhere anyone can take a deep breath and feel comfortable. Our two dogs, Barry (10) and Maggie (5), help make that feeling possible with frequent couch cuddles. We love entertaining and welcoming friends and family through our door while a warm pot of chili simmers on the stove, some homemade bread is in the oven, and good music is playing in the background. Our home is always accessible and welcome to family and friends. We cannot wait to grow our family and continue exploring with our future baby!

 Our Journey to Adoption

We have had friends and family go through both the adoption process and surrogacy. We have always known we wanted to grow our family together and have had many discussions about what is right for us. As an Ob/gyn, Calen has seen the challenges of pregnancy and the difficult decisions women have to make. Being involved in these decisions as well as seeing the joy of family and friends going through the adoption process has made our decision an easy one. It has always felt right for us. Our conversations have also always involved our eleven-year-old daughter. Her excitement in having a younger sibling rivals our own.
