Dear Birthmom

Dear Expectant Mother,

We want to start by saying thank you for taking the time to read about us. We aren’t going to pretend we understand what you’re going through, although we believe this must be a challenging time. We admire you for considering an adoption plan. It takes courage, strength, and love for your baby for you to think about adoption. You are making a difficult decision, and for that, we feel humbled.

We have always wanted to have a child together. We talked about all the ups and downs of parenthood and how we would handle everything from sleepless nights to homework. Unfortunately, we are unable to conceive. Even though we feel grief, we both believe strongly in the positive impact adoption can have on a family and look forward to being parents to any child we are blessed to have join our family.

Please know we would love to hear from you and answer any questions you may have.

Sincerely,
Liz and Brett

Our Story

Our first date was on a Monday night. We talked for hours and walked across the street to a park for a walk under the stars. Brett was nervous, and Liz made him blush. It was the best first kiss either of us had ever had. Soon we were navigating a global pandemic while building a family together. Liz feels fulfilled by her work as a physician, while Brett loves being a father of two and his career in journalism. Brett has two children from a prior marriage. Wesley is eight. He loves baseball, math, and turtles. Maxwell is six. He loves pranks, Harry Potter, and wolves. They will make great big brothers to a younger sibling. We spend as much time together as possible, preferably outdoors with family, friends, and Sami, our sweet Great Dane.

 Our Extended Family

Brett has three siblings who all enjoy spending as much time as possible at their parents’ lake house, where they swim, boat, hike, and ski. Brett’s parents’ decision to adopt has brought the entire family closer than ever. Brett’s two children are at the center of the family.

Liz grew up in Pennsylvania, which is where her parents and brother still live. She has a big extended family and has close relationships with her parents and many cousins, aunts, and uncles. We visit Liz’s family as often as possible and find ways to stay connected when we can’t be together.

 Our Home

A high-quality school district was our top priority when we chose our home. We live in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood where everyone stops to pet Sami when we take her on walks. We live down the street from the public pool, several parks, and sports fields. We love the local park district and the opportunities for outdoor activities.

 Our Journey to Adoption

We have both had positive family experiences with adoption. Brett’s younger sister was adopted from China in 2002. Liz’s favorite cousin and his wife adopted their son about ten years ago. Brett has two children who are looking forward to having another sibling. We have worked intentionally to create our blended family. Liz’s love for Wesley and Maxwell help her feel confident about adopting a child. We are hoping to raise a child together, and we feel grateful for the opportunity to welcome another child into our family through adoption.
