Dear Birthmom

We can only imagine how much thought, love, and strength it takes to consider adoption. While we don’t know you yet, we already have deep respect for you and the care you are putting into this decision.

We have been hoping to grow our family through adoption. To us, becoming parents is not just a dream, but a commitment to provide a life filled with love, stability, and encouragement. We believe that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and celebrated for exactly who they are.

Our home is one filled with laughter, joy, and fun. We enjoy traveling, cooking, and having friends and family visit, and we look forward to sharing those everyday moments with a child—reading bedtime stories, celebrating milestones, supporting their interests, and simply being present as they grow.

If you choose us, your child will always know their story begins with love. We will speak of you with respect and gratitude, and we will honor the role you hold in their life. We want to build a relationship that feels right and supportive for everyone involved.

We understand that this path is not easy, and there are no simple words for a decision like this. Please know that whatever you choose will come from a place of love, and that alone speaks volumes about who you are.

Thank you again for considering us. We would be honored to learn more about you and answer any questions you may have. No matter what, we are wishing you strength, clarity, and peace as you move forward.

Our Story

Derek works from home as a Senior Financial Analyst and throughout the day he enjoys walking the dogs during his breaks from work. He loves to stay active both through walking our pups but also loves to use his lunch time to go to the local gym. At night he enjoys cooking dinner and family time is important for us so along with eating dinner, we enjoy convening in the family room to watch a TV show or movie. On the weekends Derek loves to watch Formula One and Soccer and go fishing. Kelsey works as the Director of Teaching and Learning at a STEAM Charter School, and goes into the office, but has some flexibility to work remotely. When she comes home from work, she enjoys crafting (recently learning how to make stained glass), gardening, or playing video games to relax before dinner and family time. Kelsey spends her weekends working on a home repair or craft project. On the weekends, we have a weekly date night and both enjoy spending time with family.

 Our Extended Family

Kelsey’s parents, Rhonda and Ernie, live in the in-law suite located in the basement of our house. Rhonda runs a micro-school for Kelsey’s niece (7) and nephew (9) as well as a few other family friends who are homeschooled. Her background in early childhood is perfect for the childcare she will provide our adopted child. Ernie is a retired teacher. Kelsey’s sister’s family lives close by, and we get together as a family often. Their kids stay over at our house every other weekend, to enjoy time with their grandparents and us. Kelsey’s best friend, Kayla, will also be a huge part of this little one’s life. Derek’s friends, Jason and Kimber, will also be around quite a lot. Derek’s mom, Patti, has been retired for a few years from the medical field and spends a lot of time with her dogs including showing them around the Southeast US. She is a dedicated grandmother who enjoys taking my niece camping. Derek’s brother, Roger is an employee of one of the local schools. He has a wife, Amanda, and has one daughter, Ella (13). We enjoy family dinners once a month with Derek’s family as they live about 30 minutes away.

 Our Home

We live in a well-established community in the Upstate of South Carolina that is a great combo of retirees and families. Our house is a two-story brick home (4 bedrooms, 2.5 bath) with a finished basement apartment where Kelsey’s parents live. It has a large yard with many trees and backs up to a creek where we catch fish, track wildlife, and wade. We have two senior dogs, Patch (13) and Winston (11) who love walking and cuddles. We also have a cat named Elizabeth (11) who is very loving. We live in a great school district with one of the biggest and best high schools in the state, however Kelsey is also a Director at a local STEAM-based Charter school network, and our little one will be attending K-8 there.

 Our Journey to Adoption

We love to eat at a variety of restaurants and consider ourselves to be foodies. We also enjoy going on hikes in the nearby mountains, going to the movies, and browsing through local towns. We love traveling to experience a variety of cultures, see historical sites, and relax. Recently, we have taken trips to Europe and the Caribbean. We look forward to traveling with our child in the future and letting them experience these cultures and more. Our favorite vacations have been to London to see historical sites and museums; Denver, where we explored the Rocky Mountains and Red Rocks; and St. Thomas where we got to snorkel some of the best beaches in the Caribbean, and swam alongside sea turtles and spotted rays.
