Dear Birthmom
Dear Birthmom
Dear Expectant Mother,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter. I am thinking about you and the difficult position you are in. It takes such a brave and selfless soul to make the decision to consider adoption for your baby. I cannot imagine what you are going through—and on top of that, reading letters from hopeful adoptive parents waiting for the best day of their lives while your heart is breaking. You are strong and you are loved.
I have dreamed of becoming a mom for much of my life. I have watched my family and friends become parents, and I have seen what a beautiful gift and blessing that is. To me, you and your baby represent the possibility of making that dream a reality. The opportunity to become a mother is something I would never take for granted and I would carry that gratitude in my heart forever.
If chosen, I promise to always do my absolute best to be the best mother I can be for your baby. I will be loving, patient, tender, caring, gentle, kind, and strong. I will do so by honoring you, as without you, none of this is possible.
Take care of yourself, and take care of your heart.
Respectfully,
Heather

My Story
Hello! My name is Heather, and I am a 46-year-old single woman who is excited to become a mother through adoption. I am active, caring, and family-oriented, with a calm, patient personality and a good sense of humor. My favorite places are my home and the outdoors. I enjoy taking walks, hiking, riding my bike, playing tennis, gardening, and working on projects around my house and yard. I also love traveling and exploring new places and experiences.
Family and friends are a very important part of my life. I am fortunate to have strong, supportive relationships and a close-knit family that spends time together regularly. These connections have taught me the value of love, loyalty, and being present for the people who matter most.
I am a licensed clinical social worker at my local VA medical center. Over the past 24 years, I have worked with children, families, older adults, individuals with disabilities, and people facing mental health and medical challenges. These experiences have strengthened my compassion, patience, and understanding. I am grateful for the life I have built and excited to share it with a child.

My Extended Family
Family and friends have always been at the center of my life and are two of my greatest blessings. I am a daughter, sister, cousin, niece, granddaughter, and a friend. Each of these roles have shaped who I am. I am especially fortunate to still have my 90-year-old grandmother with us. I have one brother, and we share a close and meaningful relationship. We see each other a couple times each month. I am very close to my parents and spend time with them a couple of times each week. Tuesday night family dinners are a special tradition. I have many cousins, aunts, and uncles, and we make a point of celebrating life's milestones together. Because our family is so large, these celebrations can occur often.
One of the most meaningful extended family relationships in my life is with my cousin. For several years, I served as the nanny for her daughter, caring for her from the age of four months until she was five years old. Being entrusted with such an important role was both an honor and a privilege. The relationship we built during that time remains strong today and is one that I will always treasure.

My Home
My home and community hold a special place in my heart. I have lived in my hometown in northeastern Illinois for most of my life and have owned my home for nearly six years. Although I moved away for college and later for an adventure on the West Coast, I always found my way back. Those experiences reinforced that this is where I truly belong. I am fortunate to live just one mile from my parents, allowing us to remain closely connected. My neighborhood is quiet, safe, and family-oriented, with schools, parks, walking paths, a lake, shops, and restaurants nearby. The strong sense of community, combined with the opportunity to be close to family, makes this a wonderful place to live and a place I am proud to call home.
My Journey to Adoption
My interest in adoption began as a teenager after reading a book that opened my eyes to the profound impact adoption can have on children and families. Inspired by this experience, I pursued a career in social work and completed a bachelor's-level internship at an adoption agency, where I gained valuable insight into the adoption process.
In 2016, I faced serious health challenges that required surgeries and treatment. As a result, I am unable to have children biologically and my belief that adoption was part of my future grew even stronger.
Today, I am healthy, grateful, and ready to welcome a child into my life through adoption.
