Dear Birthmom

Dear Expectant Mother/Parents,

Thank you. Thank you for taking your time and for considering us as prospective parents for your sweet child. This is an incredibly difficult decision that we cannot possibly even begin to understand. We can just offer our gratitude and admiration for you and for the strength, courage, and love you possess.

Our names are Corey and Katie. As a couple, we love to try new experiences, and our hobbies include crafting, playing pool, reading, and gaming. Our home is a frequent family gathering location and is often filled with joy and laughter. For years, we have been trying to grow our family, but haven’t been able to. Adoption was always a path we planned to explore since Corey was adopted himself.

Our life with a child would look like playdates with cousins and spending time with grandparents who spoil them. Showing them shows like Mr. Rogers, and classic movies like Airplane or The Princess Bride. We’d play board games, build forts, bake cookies, and have dance parties. Corey would show them how to play D&D and pool while Katie would teach them how to be the goofiest version of themselves. We’d travel as much as possible, exploring different cultures. We’d encourage the child to be themself and help them to be a loving and caring human being.

We want to offer you our love and unwavering support. We hope that by choosing us, you will find comfort in knowing that your child will always be loved for who they are. We would love to be able to share updates and meet in person when the time is right, if you are open to it.

With deepest gratitude,
Corey and Katie

Our Story

Corey is a very friendly and curious person who loves to meet new people and try new activities. He is a proud nerd. Computer games, board games, yard games, you name it. He loves reading sci-fi and fantasy books, especially those written by Brandon Sanderson. He’s an avid pool player and has played in the APA world championships 3 times. Corey works as a creative project manager and has been in the field for 12 years.

Katie is a friendly, funny, crafty and creative person. One of her favorite things to do is to make their family's Halloween costumes by hand. She is fascinated by Deaf culture and American Sign Language (ASL), and has worked to become proficient in ASL. Katie has a work from home job where she helps to enter and double check data forms.

As a couple, we are homebodies and best friends. We enjoy each other’s company both when experiencing something new together and when just sitting next to one another in comfortable silence.

 Our Extended Family

Family means everything to us. Our extended family is large, loving, and deeply connected. Your child would grow up with five grandparents, four aunts, and many cousins.

Katie grew up next door to her cousins, aunt, uncle, and grandma, spending nearly every day together. She has memories of hunting Easter eggs at her grandmother’s house, staying up late on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa to ring the bell and drop his presents off at the front door, and spontaneously going to random hotels with her mom and sister. Corey recalls decorating a real Christmas tree with holiday music and eggnog, painting Easter eggs, learning handyman skills from his dad, and laughing through games of Pit with his cousins on holidays. Corey is adopted and is close to both his adoptive and biological families, giving him a special understanding of the beauty and complexity of adoption and the importance of honoring every part of a child’s story.

Together, we imagine a childhood full of family game nights, big holiday gatherings, homemade Halloween costumes, trips to C2E2, and joyful traditions that grow year after year. Your child would be surrounded by people who celebrate loudly, love deeply, and cherish every moment together.

 Our Home

We live in a small suburb just outside a large city in Illinois. During the summer we can see all the neighborhood kids playing games and riding bikes. We can walk to a fantastic park with 2 different playgrounds, several baseball fields, a splash pad, and a large hill (good for sledding in the winter) a few blocks away. Our community also hosts a large fair each summer with games and rides. There are several restaurants, a mall, the best ice cream shop, and several forest preserves close by. We live in a 5-bedroom, 3-bathroom split-level home with our 2.5 year old dog, Quincy, a black lab/golden retriever mix who is a pure and utter goofball. Quincy is a sweetheart who loves people, kids, and other dogs.

 Our Journey to Adoption

Both of us have always wanted to be parents, and having a family has always been a part of our plan for our lives together. Corey was adopted by his parents as a baby, and is extremely grateful for the life he was given. He knows first hand how the experience of being adopted can shape one’s life. So, for both of us, it has just seemed natural to have adoption be a part of our family journey.
