Dear Birthmom

Dear Expectant Mother,

We cannot possibly imagine the difficult decision you are facing. The world looks different now, and we recognize you may have fewer options than before. We are deeply honored that you are considering us as potential adoptive parents for your precious child. Your strength, love, and selflessness are beyond words, and we have the utmost respect for you and the journey you are on.

Should you choose us, please know your child will be welcomed into a home filled with love, compassion, and unwavering support. We are surrounded by supportive family and friends who are as excited as we are to welcome a new member into our family. We promise to nurture, protect, and cherish them, providing a life full of opportunities, joy, and a deep sense of belonging. We are committed to providing the best possible opportunities for their growth and development and envision a life where they can explore their interests through sports, arts, or any other passions they may discover.

We believe in the importance of open communication and will always be honest with your child about their adoption story, ensuring they know the tremendous love and bravery behind your decision. We want to maintain a relationship with you, as much as you are comfortable with, so your child can know their roots and the special person who brought them into this world. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering us as you make this incredibly brave decision.

Our Story

Hi! We’re Matt and Kyle. We have been together since 2020 and married in 2022. We met while Matt was finishing his Ph.D. in business psychology at a university in north-central Louisiana, 30 minutes from Kyle’s hometown. We immediately connected over our shared loss of a parent. Matt lost his dad in 2013, and Kyle lost his mom in 2020. Although we see ourselves as opposites in many areas (e.g., Matt is an introvert and Kyle is an extrovert), we have formed an unbreakable bond and share the same core values. It is true what they say: Opposites attract! We consider ourselves homebodies and spend our free time doing projects around our house, playing with our pets, and reading or listening to audiobooks. When we venture out, we enjoy exploring our city’s diverse food scene and other forms of entertainment, like music festivals, pop-up shops, and comedy shows.

 Our Extended Family

We have a large extended family with many eagerly awaiting the arrival of a grandchild, niece or nephew, or cousin. We are both firstborns, and none of our siblings have children. Matt has one brother and one sister. Kyle has two brothers and one sister. We speak to all our siblings regularly, almost daily. Kyle’s dad is widowed, but Matt’s mom is remarried. Most of Matt’s family lives in Texas, and most of Kyle’s family lives in Louisiana. They are all within a few hours’ driving distance.

We also have a chosen family we spend holidays with in addition to our extended families. We usually have at least two Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations each year. Matt’s family gathers at a park on Easter and the Fourth of July every year, which we both attend. Kyle’s family goes camping every summer and always invites us to join. (Matt isn’t big on camping but will try.) We have taken many vacations with Matt’s family, including a summer beach trip and Christmas in North Carolina. Many of our cousins have children, and we look forward to planning playdates and other get-togethers so our child will have others their age to grow up with.

 Our Home

We live in a four-bedroom, single-story house in a Texas suburb, about 15 minutes outside the city. We have a dachshund named Mílo and a cat named Josie who are best friends. We have gotten to know our neighbors well over the past three years and feel safe. The public schools in our district are within walking distance. We enjoy evening walks around our community park and swimming in the community pool in the summer. We also like going out for brunch in the city after church on Sundays. When the weather is nice, we find an outdoor patio to sit and talk over a cup of coffee or explore the many parks in the area or the unique shops and colorful murals downtown.

 Our Journey to Adoption

We are excited about the opportunity to provide a safe and loving home for a child through adoption. As a same-sex couple, we understand the importance of diversity and inclusion. We hope to establish a home that embraces differences while teaching a child the values of love, acceptance, and respect for others regardless of their background. We always knew we wanted to start a family. However, we began our journey exploring surrogacy, wanting a child with our DNA. After learning of all the challenges surrogate mothers can face and realizing the journey could be more difficult than expected, we discussed the idea of adoption. We decided it was more important to provide a nurturing environment for a child than us being biologically related.
