Dear Birthmom

Dear Expectant Mother,

We can only begin to understand the decision you’re facing right now. We are so grateful that you’re taking the time to read our letter and learn a little more about us. Your consideration is truly a blessing, and we hope you are able to find what you are looking for in the sea of portfolios you’ve been given.

We’ve come a long way from the middle school kids who met in band class, and we are so looking forward to sharing our lives with children. From bike rides down to the beach to family vacations, we want to share the world with them and help them discover their interests and passions. We have wanted to grow our family for a long time and are lucky enough to have a son. Our dream is for him to have a sibling to grow and learn with, share with, and love.

Thank you for considering our family. We know this may be a difficult decision, and we admire your courage. Please know you have our support regardless of the choice you make.

Our Story

Hello! Thank you for considering adoption and for reading our profile. We’re Ahriel and Frank—two awkward kids from Alaska who fell in love in high school band class and haven’t looked back since. The drummer boy got the flute girl. We both work for the military and have loved having the opportunity to travel and see the world together. Ahriel is artistic and funny, and she loves coffee. She’s a strong believer in promoting a healthy lifestyle and in leaving nature better than she found it. Frank is big into technology and is always learning about and building new things. We both love our shy, happy son, Jude, and are excited to watch him grow and become a great big brother. Overall, we strive to live life to its fullest and make sure to leave time for love, cuddles, and family.

 Our Extended Family

Our parents live in Alaska. They’re so thrilled to meet their grandchild and eager to share in all of the Alaskan traditions by teaching them about sled dog racing or staying up late to watch the Northern Lights like they did with us when we were little. Living in Alaska, they also deeply appreciate nature and enjoy providing for themselves through fishing and gardening. There’s no shortage of homemade jam every year when the raspberries and blueberries are ripe. In the summer, we enjoyed family trips to hike and camp and roasting marshmallows over an open fire with a beautiful mountain view. We try to keep those traditions alive and look forward to those trips all year.

Ahriel’s grandparents are an unlikely pair: one from Mexico, the other from Germany. They left quite a unique legacy of holiday traditions in the family, including Day of the Dead in October and St. Nicholas Day in December.

In the winters, we learned to embrace the cold and play hard with snowmobiles, skis, and snowboards! We’re all looking forward to cuddling next to a warm fire on Christmas Eve while it snows outside and reading ’Twas the Night Before Christmas.

 Our Home

We live in a two-story house in Hawaii with a big yard and a papaya tree out back. We love music and recently turned the family room into a play area/studio, complete with baby piano, drums, guitar, and, of course, ukuleles. It’s the perfect place to read stories, play with toys, and spend quality time as a family. Our cat and dog, Khaos and Havok, love to snuggle and follow us through every room of the house. Our neighborhood is unbelievably kid friendly, with lots of parks and playgrounds. Every night is family time, where we either take a walk to the park or ride our bikes down to the beach to watch the sun sink into the ocean.

 Our Journey to Adoption

Growing up, we both witnessed the huge impact one person can have on the course of a child’s life. Neither of us would be where we are today if it weren’t for those role models showing us what’s possible. Ahriel has dreamed of adopting ever since she was a little girl, and we both believe every child should have the chance to reach their full potential. We’re pursuing adoption to grow our family and create an environment where a child can learn, grow, and have the opportunity to explore what makes them happy in life.
