Dear Birthmom

Dear Expectant Mother,

It is so strange to write to you, knowing that we have not yet met, but we hope that soon, that will change! We want to start by saying thank you for considering us in this difficult decision. What you are going through right now must not be easy for you. We want you to know that we will be here for you and your baby every step of the way.

We have a lot of love to give, and only wish for the opportunity to give it. We want you to know that your child will be loved and supported in every way, no matter what. We will teach them to be a kind and selfless person, just like you are. We promise to put an emphasis on education, and following their dreams. We promise to kiss boo-boos and give hugs everyday, and to never let them feel like they are alone.

We want you to know that the decisions you have made and are making are unbelievably brave. There is no one way to love a child, but how lucky for yours that they will get to experience so much love from so many people! Please know that you are so loved by us as well! There are so many thoughts and feelings that we have right now, and could never put them all into one small letter, but we hope that this has been a good start. We are always here to answer any questions you may have. Thank you again for taking the time to learn about us. We hope to meet you soon!

- Jordyn and Christian

Our Story

When we were in college, we both joined the school’s swing dance club. Christian had been involved with the club and Jordyn was brand new to swing dancing. We met there and have been together ever since. We still enjoy swing dancing when we get the chance. We got married in 2020, right at the beginning of the pandemic and have since become the fur parents of four cats; Meeko, Winnie, O’Malley, and Dot. Christian is a firefighter and enjoys rock climbing, playing video games, and learning about dinosaurs and lighthouses in his free time. When Jordyn is not teaching, they like to create art, go swimming, read, and collect crystals. Together, we spend our time seeing Broadway shows, camping, visiting amusement parks, and playing board games.

 Our Extended Family

Christian is an only child with seven cousins, five aunts, four uncles, and two sets of grandparents. His relationship with his parents was rocky growing up, however since moving away to college it has improved greatly. We don’t always see each other very often though because they are on the other side of the state, but when we are together we are usually tagging along on their camping trips.

Jordyn has one younger sister. They have one aunt, one uncle, two cousins, and one set of grandparents. When we go to Jordyn’s hometown, we spend time with their family on the boat, having bonfires, and celebrating holidays. Jordyn’s family is closer, so we are able to see them more often. Our favorite tradition with this side of our family is a silly Christmas party in the summer that was started by Jordyn’s grandpa before he passed away.

 Our Home

We live in Michigan, just outside of a big city that is full of museums, parks, nature centers, and not too far from the beach! Our neighborhood is full of families and there is a playground within walking distance. There are many good school districts around us, including the one that Jordyn works for. The community we live in also hosts a lot of summer events like concerts in the park, neighborhood block parties, and holiday parades. We also have four cats that live with us. O’Malley (2yr) loves attention, snuggles, and playing fetch. Meeko (5yr) and Winnie (2yr) are more shy but will warm up to people fairly quickly. Lastly there is Dot (3mo) who is a little bundle of energy and love.

 Our Journey to Adoption

When we first got together, we knew we wanted to have kids, but knew that it would be difficult. When we met, we both identified as females, but throughout our relationship have transitioned and now identify as a man and a non-binary person. As we are unable to biologically have children, we looked into many ways to grow our family. However, we always kept circling back to adoption, especially since Jordyn’s mom was adopted as an infant. We were so excited to find LifeLong because it was the first path that truly felt right for us!
